The Hebrew newspaper “Calcalist” revealed a new settlement plan to build a Jewish neighborhood in the center of Jerusalem.
The newspaper reported that the Israel Lands Authority is seeking to approve a plan to build a new settlement neighborhood consisting of 900 units near the Malha commercial complex in central Jerusalem.
She said that the area of the project is 205 dunums, and it includes sports facilities and housing units distributed over 24-storey buildings, in addition to 250 protected housing units, offices of an area of 330 meters, and commercial areas.
The newspaper pointed out that the plan will be presented this week to the National Planning and Building Committee in Jerusalem, after fulfilling the necessary conditions, noting that it is estimated that an early date will be set to approve the plan.
The director of the Maps and Geographic Information Systems Department, Khalil al-Tafakji, revealed that the Israeli authorities had begun constructing the main bypass road linking Anata with Al-Eizariya, east of occupied Jerusalem, in preparation for building a new settlement.
He added that the Israeli government is working to expand settlements and fill in the voids that isolate Palestinian villages and cities from each other.
He explained that during the past month, 1942 settlement units were announced in successive and simultaneous tenders, in a coordinated manner and within the settlement and security system that eliminates the Palestinian dream of a geographically interconnected Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
