Iranian judo player Saeed Moulay, who fled his country, is expected to arrive in Israel this evening, Sunday, to participate in the judo championship, according to Kan.
In Israel, the “Grand Slam – Tel Aviv” judo championship will be held with the participation of players from different countries.
Iranian Moulay will participate in the championship under the name of Mongolia, after he allowed the former world champion in judo, who fled Iran last year due to a dispute over competing against the Israelis to represent a new country before the Tokyo Olympics.
The International Olympic Committee agreed to change Said Moulay’s nationality to Mongolia from refugee status.
A spokesman for the Iranian judo player said that the player, Saeed Moulay, intends to come to Israel and participate in the tournament, but he refuses to talk about it and focuses his attention on preparing for matches only.
It is reported that Said Moulay is the world champion of judo at a weight of up to 81 kg for the year 2018, he fled to Germany after defying the orders of the Iranian team to lose intentionally while defending its title. Moulay claimed that he received orders to avoid confronting a high-ranking opponent from Israel.
