According to the calendar for the election of the governorship of the State of Mexico, the political parties have until next Saturday, January 14, to register a common candidacy.
In accordance with article 76 of the Electoral Code of the State of Mexico, political parties must sign an agreement “signed by their representatives and leaders, which they will present for registration before the Institute, no later than 30 days before the start of the period of pre-campaign of the election in question”.
In other words, according to this rule, the period for registering alliances in the entity would have already passed.
However, the IEEM indicated that these defined terms constituted a limitation for the participation of political parties in the electoral process under the modality of common candidacy.
“This Institute considers that the provisions of article 276, numeral 1 of the Election Regulations, the normative text applicable to coalitions, are applicable to extend the term to request the registration of the common candidacy agreement,” said the Electoral Institute of the State of Mexico (IEEM).
