Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels is questionable for Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders after spraining his left knee, according to reports.
The reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year sustained the injury during Thursday’s 27-18 loss to the Green Bay Packers. While Daniels was seen limping after the game, an MRI reportedly revealed no major damage.
If Daniels is unable to play, it would be the first missed start of his career. He previously exited two games with minor injuries but has never been inactive. Veteran Marcus Mariota, who performed effectively in relief of Daniels last season, would start against his former team. In two appearances, Mariota completed 33 of 41 passes for 366 yards and four touchdowns.
The loss in Green Bay proved costly for Washington’s roster. The team lost two key starters for the season: running back Austin Ekeler to a torn Achilles and defensive end Deatrich Wise Jr. to a quad injury. In addition, receiver Noah Brown (groin), tight end John Bates (groin), and cornerback Jonathan Jones (hamstring) all left the game with injuries.
This string of injuries contrasts sharply with last season, when the team’s remarkable health was a key factor in its 12-5 record and run to the NFC Championship Game.
