US Vice President Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, stressed the importance of vaccinating teachers against the Corona virus, due to the important work they perform, in an environment in which protection measures are difficult to implement.
“Teachers should be a priority,” Harris said in her first TV interview since taking office on Wednesday. “They have to be able to teach in a safe place … so teachers should take priority alongside other frontline workers.”

She noted that only about half of the states give the vaccine to teachers first, and called on all states to put teachers at the front of the classroom to get the vaccine.
Harris avoided answering a question about the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommendation that schools remain closed if the rate of positive tests is above dangerous levels in society as a whole.
She said, “What the CDC has recommended is exactly that, recommendations on how to safely reopen schools if they are closed, and how to keep them open if they are open.”
