Goaltender Spencer Knight is refining his technique with Blackhawks goalie coach Jimmy Waite, focusing on specific adjustments like keeping his glove hand more open to opponents and maintaining his height on high shots to cover the top of the net.
Waite praised Knight’s meticulous and disciplined approach to preparation. “He’s a very particular guy,” Waite said. “He knows what he wants and he’s going to tell you what he wants… He prepares well for games and he’s very disciplined about everything he does.”
Since arriving in Chicago, Knight has built a strong rapport with fellow goaltender Arvid Soderblom, fostering a friendly but intense competition expected to benefit the team.
“I feel we’re having a good connection going into this year,” said Soderblom. “We can just keep pushing each other and make each other better every day.”
Soderblom noted that he learns a great deal from watching his younger counterpart. “He’s a great technical goalie,” Soderblom said. “It’s just all the small things he does. He’s very focused… There are always things you can learn from each other.”
As he prepares for his first full season with the Blackhawks, Knight is embracing his new chapter. He praised the team’s atmosphere, highlighting the support from teammates, staff, and the front office.
“I’m looking forward to getting better as a player and a person,” Knight said. “The journey, to me, is the best part. I’ve had a lot of ups and downs and you know what; I wouldn’t trade it for the world. Everything’s made me stronger, and I know I can handle whatever comes my way.”
