The Brooklyn Nets seem to have steadied the ship amid a turbulent few weeks for the NBA franchise, but things could have been worse than first thought under former coach Steve Nash.Â
The former two-time league MVP was relieved of his duties as head coach of Brooklyn on November 1 following a 2-5 start to the new NBA season.Â
It was often questioned as to whether Nash was truly the leader of the team given the on-court star power of Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and Ben Simmons.Â

A new report suggests Nash’s message may have lost its luster, with Kyrie Irving said to have blatantly ignored his then-coach’s directives during an October 29 loss to Indiana.Â
According to a veteran scout, Irving disobeyed Nash’s play-calling on ’10 separate occasions.
‘I couldn’t believe what I was seeing,’ the anonymous scout said of the Pacers game, per the New York Post.
A veteran NBA scout told The Post that Irving disobeyed Nash’s calls on ’10 separate occasions’
‘Nash would call something, and he’d run the opposite. I’ve never seen anything like that.’
Brooklyn would go on to lose the encounter 125-116 at the Barclays Center. One may argue Irving was wise to make his own decisions after putting up a 35-point, six-assist and two-rebound night.Â

It is said to have anti-Semitic messaging throughout. Irving was suspended indefinitely, for at least five games on November 3.Â
Tuesday, the 30-year-old had a ‘productive’ meeting with NBA commissioner Adam Silver as he continues to work his way back.
The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported the ‘productive and understanding visit’ is ‘paving the way for the Nets and their suspended star to work through his steps on a potential path forward.’Â

Dissatisfied with Irving’s responses in the media following the tweet, Nets owner Joe Tsai and general manager Sean Marks issued a minimum five-game ban for Irving.
In order to return, he must satisfy ‘a series of objective remedial measures that address the harmful impact of his conduct’Â before he can return to the team.Â
Currently, Irving is three games through his immediate five-game ban, and could return as soon as Sunday at LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers.
