Video footage from Milan showed angry motorists repeatedly kicking and dragging climate protesters who were blocking traffic. Around 20 activists from the group ‘Ultima Generazione’ blocked a road during rush hour, causing chaos for drivers. The activists sat on a crossing point, linking hands and holding up an orange climate emergency banner. Frustrated motorists got out of their cars to clear the road, with one man repeatedly kicking a protester as he lay on his back. More motorists joined in, trying to tear the banner away from the activists. Some individuals went limp, making it difficult for motorists to move them. Eventually, police intervened, and the activists were loaded into police cars. The confrontation took place near the city’s Portello metro station, and traffic resumed after around 15 minutes. The judicial authorities will now decide whether to charge the protesters. This incident follows a similar one in Germany last month, where a motorist resorted to violence to break up a street-blocking protest by Last Generation. The motorist was arrested by the police.
