Cleveland Cavaliers player Lauri Markkanen has been included in the NBA’s health and safety protocols, as confirmed by the franchise itself.
The journalist from The AthleticShams Charania said the Finnish international is expected to miss several matches, although the exact amount is unknown. At the moment, he will not be available for this Wednesday’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers.
Markkanen is the second Cavaliers player to enter protocols this week. Kevin Love was included in them on Monday, although in neither case was it specified whether it was due to a positive from the player himself. According to the journalist of ESPN Adrian Wojnarowski, the entire staff has been vaccinated against COVID-19.
The power forward had landed in Ohio during the offseason as a centerpiece of a three-way operation between Chicago, Portland and Cleveland. His production in his eight games played, all of them starting as a starter, amounted to 12.9 points and 5.9 rebounds in a total of 30.8 minutes.
With Markkanen and Love out of the game, the Cavaliers will influence Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley as an inside pair, who had already been part of the starting five in all the games this season start. Currently, the Cavaliers rank 11th in the Eastern Conference with a record of four wins and four losses.
