Patriarch Mar Beshara Boutros Al-Rahi called on President Michel Aoun and Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri to conclude a reconciliation that restores confidence between them.
During the Sunday sermon, the Shepherd said: “Lebanon, this precious jewel, is in a state of undermining that we did not expect on the occasion of the celebration of its first centenary: the formation of the government is suspended, the judiciary is prey to political and sectarian interference, the economy is paralyzed in all its sectors, half of Beirut is destroyed, its population is afflicted, its people The victims are neglected, half of the Lebanese people are in poverty. “
And he considered that the door leading to a solution to all these matters is the formation of a rescue government composed of Lebanese elites.
He added: “I personally sought, out of responsibility, to move the formation of the government for the sake of Lebanon and all the Lebanese. Many in these endeavors met a glimmer of hope, and since the constitution clearly defines the role of both the President of the Republic and the President-designate (forming the government), I wished for them to hold a personal reconciliation meeting that would repeat Trust between them, so they proceed to sifting through the proposed names and exploring new and worthy names, bearing in mind only the public interest and the salvation of Lebanon, and bypassing immediate and future personal and factional interests.
He continued, “We wish His Excellency the President of the Republic to take the initiative to invite the President-designate to hold this meeting. Time is ruthless, and the tragic situation of the country and the people does not justify any delay in forming the government.”
