Rio de Janeiro, March 21 (.).- Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will make an official two-day visit to the United Arab Emirates starting March 31 to discuss climate change and possible investments from the sovereign wealth fund that country in Brazil, official sources reported on Tuesday.
The progressive leader will disembark in Abu Dhabi after the official visit he will make to China between March 26 and 30 on a stopover on his return trip to Brazil, explained the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Despite the fact that the Foreign Ministry did not disclose the agenda for the visit, the expectation is that Lula will meet on March 31 with Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Emir of Abu Dhabi and President of the United Arab Emirates, and that he will return to Brazil first thing in the morning. from April 1.
The visit to the United Arab Emirates will be the fifth official visit to another country by the leader of the leftist Workers’ Party (PT (OTC:)) since he took up his third term on April 1.
Shortly after his inauguration, Lula visited Argentina and Uruguay, Brazil’s partners in the Southern Common Market (Mercosur). Later he traveled to the United States to meet with Joe Biden. And next week he will visit China, Brazil’s largest trading partner and the main source of new investment in the country.
Lula will talk with Mohammed bin Rashid about the next Conference of the Parties to the Climate Agreement (COP28), scheduled for the end of this year in Abu Dhabi and in which the Government of Brazil will officially present its candidacy to organize COP30 in 2025 in the Amazon city of Belém.
The progressive leader attended COP27 in Egypt when he had not yet taken office and then reaffirmed his commitment to combat deforestation in the Amazon and climate change.
The heads of state of the two countries will also talk about the investment possibilities in Brazil that are opening up in the new government for the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, that country’s sovereign wealth fund.
The fund of one of the world’s largest producers has a reserve of 800,000 million dollars and seeks opportunities around the world, especially in renewable energy -an area in which Brazil offers great opportunities-, to prepare for the change in the global energy matrix.
