A truck driver has miraculously survived a terrifying fall after he veered off a highway bridge and plunged 20 metres into a creek.
The 36-year-old man was trapped in the wreckage on Wednesday morning for more than an hour after the truck’s trailer crushed the cabin.
Police said the semi-truck with a trailer attached was travelling north bound on the Calder Freeway in Malmsbury, central Victoria, when it veered off course at about 5.20am.
The vehicle then struck a safety barrier and concrete pillar at the Spring Creek Bridge, before plummeting off the edge between the north and south bound lanes.

Pictures from the scene show the truck lodged at the base of the structure.
The cabin was destroyed by the impact of the trailer, with its debris squashed into the grass.
Police said the driver was stuck for about 1.5 hours before being freed.
He was eventually airlifted to hospital with what is believed to be non life threatening injuries to his lower body.
Bendigo Highway Patrol Leading Senior Constable Peter Dyer declared the truck driver to be the ‘luckiest person’, Nine News reported.
‘I’ve been doing this job 29 years and I’ve never seen such damage to a prime mover before where a person has escaped serious injury,’ he said.

‘Probably the luckiest person I have seen get out of a collision to be honest.’
Leading Senior Constable Dyer described the damage as ‘monumental’.
Police said the north bound lanes of the Calder Freeway would likely be shut for the remainder of Wednesday as the truck is removed and the scene is cleaned up.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or who has dashcam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
