Wantaway Tottenham talisman Harry Kane has been dealt a blow in his bid to join a club in the Champions League this summer, with Manchester City reportedly reluctant to be dragged into a lengthy transfer saga.

Kane has endured a difficult start for England at Euro 2020, having failed to score in his first group stage games, and question marks continue to surround his future with a £150million move on the cards.

City are one of the few clubs who may be able to match Spurs’ price tag, but The Telegraph have claimed they are keen to thrash out a deal sooner rather then later, instead of waiting until the start of the season.

Manchester City are reportedly unwilling to be dragged into a lengthy saga over Harry Kane

England captain Kane has insisted his open wish to move on during this window is not affecting his performances for his country – but, with a host of potential suitors keen on swooping, the speculation is set to rumble on.

Premier League champions City are on the hunt for a new long-term successor to Sergio Aguero, who left the Etihad to join Barcelona on a free transfer. Kane was quickly earmarked as one of their targets.

According to the same report, however, City are not willing to battle away to secure Kane’s signature right up until the end of the window.

Despite this, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is understood to be unwilling to let Kane leave, and as such will double down on his firm stance over the ace’s valuation.

In a recent interview with the club’s website, Levy revealed that the club will do ‘whatever is right’ over the dilemma concerning Kane.

Sportsmail revealed that Kane informed Tottenham of his desire to leave after a poor season that saw them miss out on the Champions League and Europa League, and also knocked out of the latter in humiliating fashion.

Their failure to land a new manager has only added to the confusion surrounding their key man’s future, with pursuits of Julian Nagelsmann, Brendan Rodgers, Antonio Conte, Paulo Fonseca and Gennaro Gattuso all collapsing.

It has also been reported by The Telegraph that there is nothing down in writing which would force Levy to sell Kane this summer, despite contrasting rumours, and the club chief is determined to keep hold of him.

City are widely expected to splash the cash as they bid to build on their top-flight success, and – as revealed by Sportsmail – Kane is Pep Guardiola’s preferred target.

Kane has three years left on his deal with Spurs, leaving them in a strong negotiating position, and boss Guardiola has unsurprisingly been unwilling to comment on the links to the coveted frontman.

Manchester United are also in the race to sign Kane, but the club’s main priority is to wrap up a switch for Borussia Dortmund wideman Jadon Sancho.

Kane’s valuation may also prove a stumbling block for them.
