Moment £190,000 McLaren plug-in hybrid sports car bursts into flames on TEST DRIVE a mile away from motor dealership
The moment a £190,000 McLaren plug-in hybrid sports car burst into flames during a test drive has been captured in images. The McLaren Artura, the supercar manufacturer’s first electrified car, caught fire just a mile from the motor dealership. Fire crews were called to the scene in Leeds, and luckily, both the customer and showroom worker escaped unharmed. The car, which had been recalled in the US this year due to a fire risk, was completely destroyed.
The Artura, equipped with a 7.4kWh battery and a 94bhp electric motor, is McLaren’s entry into the electric market. However, it has faced issues from the start, with a cancelled launch due to software problems and a car catching fire during a rescheduled event. The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration also recalled 164 Arturas in December due to a fire risk caused by a loose high-pressure fuel pipe.
The cause of the fire in Leeds is still unknown, and McLaren has not yet provided a comment on the incident.
