Skirmishes broke out between protesters from two rival factions in the city of Iguala in southern Mexico, as anger grew over President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador’s support for a candidate in a state accused of rape.

Video footage circulated on social media showed a woman beating another with a loudspeaker to blow her face after a joint meeting between Lopez Obrador and Argentine President Alberto Fernandez.
The injured woman was taking part in a protest against Felix Salgado, the candidate for governor of the southern state of Guerrero and a member of the ruling party led by Lopez Obrador.

Calls have increased in recent weeks for the president to drop his support for Salgado over allegations of rape.
A group of ruling party lawmakers, party members and supporters published a letter earlier this month urging the party leadership to reconsider Salgado’s nomination, while Lopez Obrador said the invitations were politically motivated.
