Model Entrepreneurs, the platform to promote the growth of small shops

In order to promote the competitiveness of small stores, Grupo Modelo and the Secretariat of Economic Development of Mexico City (Sedeco), launched the Model Entrepreneurs programwith which it will promote 1,000 CDMX shopkeepers.

The initiative arises from the need to make small stores more competitive, because in Mexico there are more than 1 million shopkeepers, who represent 50% of the national grocery billing and because the beer represents between 30 and 40% of income of the shops.

The Model Entrepreneurs platform will offer access to credits, to digital toolscompetitive prices and training to professionalize the business.

“We believe that we can not only give them training in the professional part; improve their business management and marketing, as well as their personal finances, because in the end their families depend on them”, highlighted Carlos from Grupo Modelo.

During the launch of the program, where Doña Irma is the first entrepreneur to benefit from the program, Fadlala Akabani Hneide, secretary of Sedeco, highlighted that there are 40,000 of these establishments in CDMX, which “support approximately 120,000 people; The first thousand businesses benefited in collaboration with Grupo Modelo represent the historic beginning of a public-private alliance whose objective is to increase their productivity, their formalization and the definitive entrance to digital and financial inclusion”.

Likewise, Cassiano De Stefano, president of Grupo Modelo, pointed out: “With the launch of Emprendedores Modelo, we want to promote the transformation of shopkeepers with benefits that help their growth and improve their quality of life and that of their families, through the innovation and technology”.

In an interview, Carlos highlighted that the credit is granted through Tienda Pago, a technology that allows access to financing through the cell phone. competitive rates and amounts that can range from 5,000 pesos.

The line of credit is exclusively to purchase Grupo Modelo products: beers and miscellaneous items such as canned goods, groceries, dog food, among others.

“We want to be that strategic ally and that today they have better access to these products.”

Tools and training

The platform will also provide support for the implementation of technology that allows them to offer more services and technology to enable card payments, as well as training that allows them to implement better operating practices in their businesses, advice on the administration and operation of the point of sale.

Carlos stressed that the training will be carried out through the BEES platform, which is a mobile application for the business, which allows you to request products at home, and now it will also host training, advice, videos and podcast of different themes.

Currently only shopkeepers have access to BEES, but it is hoped that in the future the family and employees can access the tools and training.

Expansion in 2023

It is expected that the following year the program will be extended to the entire Mexican Republic and will have an impact on reaching 5,000 businesses.

Technology is also being worked on so that small shops offer the possibility of making payments for services and receiving remittances, which will be promoted next year.
