Bullish Mohamed Salah lays down the gauntlet to title rivals Manchester City by ALREADY claiming Liverpool are ‘the club that deserves’ to win the Premier League this season
- Liverpool and Manchester City are expected to duel for the title again this term
- Mohamed Salah claims his team are already the club that ‘deserves’ to succeed
- The Egypt international has also reflected back on a mixed start to the campaign

Mohamed Salah has added early fire to the title race by already claiming that Liverpool ‘deserve’ to win the Premier League ahead of Manchester City.
The two clubs have become embroiled in a bitter rivalry in their quest to lift the coveted trophy in the last couple of seasons – and will again face each other at the Etihad on Sunday.
And ahead of the clash, Salah has bullishly laid down the gauntlet in the early stages of the campaign, and also reflected on Liverpool’s recent highs and lows in a wide-ranging interview.
Mohamed Salah has already claimed Liverpool deserve to win the Premier League this season
When questioned whether Liverpool are worthy contenders to win the title for the second consecutive season, he told beIN Sports: ‘In my opinion, yes; we are the club that deserves the title.’
The Anfield giants currently sit in second spot, behind surprise package Southampton, after their first seven games, and are expected to mount a strong defence of their crown.
Pep Guardiola’s City, meanwhile, are languishing in mid-table after falling victim to a number of surprise events this term. Their draw at West Ham last weekend saw them fall five points adrift of the summit.

But Liverpool have also suffered from surprise setbacks of their own, with the 7-2 humbling at Aston Villa last month forcing them to crash back down to earth.
Salah has now cast his mind back to the jaw-dropping result and praised his team’s ability to recover.
He added: ‘I believe we were able to stand on our feet again. After that loss, we drew once and won 4 or 5 other matches.
‘It was not easy, especially with Virgil’s injury, but thank God we were able to return to our normal position and to win all the matches. In the end, we accepted what happened.
The Liverpool talisman also cast his mind back to the surprise defeat by Aston Villa last month
‘A loss is a loss, regardless of the number of goals you concede, but it was difficult for us to lose when we are champions of England and the holders of the UEFA Champions League title two years ago.
‘When you face such a situation, you have two options: to sit down and lament what happened or to move forward and create a positive reaction. We took the second option.’
The Egypt international has formed part of a lethal front three on Merseyside since arriving alongside Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.
Salah’s nine goals this season across all competitions sees him top the scoring charts among the trio, with Mane chipping in with five.
Salah says the goal tallies of Liverpool’s front three pale in comparison to the team’s success
Firmino has notably struggled, however, netting just once this year – although Salah stresses that their individual records should pale in comparison to the successes of the team.
‘I don’t count our goals,’ he said. ‘We have played together for the past four years, and it is natural not to score in every match.
‘What matters is what the team achieves as a whole, and I believe that we help the team a lot.’
