Fortunately, in Mexican law, rights for animals are increasingly being recognized and expanded. The good news is that the federal judiciary has recognized animals as part of Mexican families.

On March 2, 2023, through the ruling issued by the Eleventh Collegiate Court on Administrative Matters of the First Circuit, Judge Paula García Villegas Sánchez Cordero, legally recognized the existence of multispecies families trying to respond to a demand that surrounds the contemporary legal world. , about the role that animals play in families in the world of the 21st century.

In his sentence, he indicates that the evolution of the family and its protection by the Plenary and First Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation is dynamic, for which reason they have issued extensive jurisprudence on the evolution of what is understood by the right to the family and its constitutional protection, in relation to its composition and its origin

The magistrate affirms that: “the current reality is that domestic animals have become, in some family bosoms, part of the family members. They play a role of protection, support, company, affection and care towards humans. The reciprocal attachment relationship between people and domestic animals is even clear, in multispecies families, because they are treated as part of the family. They are, in a few words, members of it, hence the name multispecies or interspecies family”.

There are countries like Spain, Colombia or Brazil, which have issued the first, legislation in which domestic animals are decoded, the second, sentences in relation to multispecies families or in the case of Brazil, which also have legislation, up to where there is news, approved by the Senate, that contemplate this family situation.
