Today, the Philippine authorities said that they had discovered a new strain of Corona virus in the country. Media group ABS-CBN quoted authorities as saying that the strain was named P.3.
She stated that the number of carriers of this type of virus has reached 98 cases so far. In addition, the country’s Ministry of Health confirmed the discovery of the first case of the Brazilian mutation (P.1), in a Filipino citizen who had recently returned from Brazil.
According to her, the mutations P.3 and P.1 have the same origin – B.1.1.28. This strain has not been shown to be more contagious or to cause problems with vaccine efficacy.
The announcement of the detection of P.3 came about a month after the Philippine Department of Health confirmed that two mutations – E484K and N501Y – were found in samples from the central Visayas region.
Although P.3 was discovered for the first time in the Philippines in particular, the local Ministry of Health confirms that the World Health Organization “does not recommend naming this mutation in the Filipino”.
