Raptors’ Fred VanVleet calls NBA referee Ben Taylor ‘f***ing terrible’ in expletive-laden rant after getting ‘bulls*** tech’ in Toronto’s loss
Toronto Raptors guard Fred VanVleet went off at NBA referee Ben Taylor, labeling his performance in Wednesday night’s loss to the LA Clippers as ‘f****** terrible.’
VanVleet raged postgame at both Taylor and the other NBA officiating crew for receiving a tech foul, and what he believed to be a disparity in fouls called.
‘I don’t mind it. I’ll take the fine. I don’t really care,’ VanVleet began before launching into a composed, yet expletive-laden diatribe.
‘I thought Ben Taylor was f****** terrible tonight. I think that most nights, you know out of the three, there’s one or two that just f*** the game up. It’s been like that a couple of games in a row. Denver was tough, obviously.’
‘You come out tonight, competing pretty hard and I get a bulls*** tech that changes the whole dynamic of the game, changed the whole flow of the game.’
WARNING – EXPLICIT LANGUAGE
Toronto Raptors star Fred VanVleet let it fly when discussing the refereeing in a loss to LAC
NBA referee Ben Taylor was verbally eviscerated and accused of his decisions being ‘personal’
VanVleet, who is in his sixth year in the league, was called for his eighth technical of the season with 7:02 remaining in the third quarter. Paul George made the free throw to put the Clippers up 65-57.
The 29-year-old said the reason he picked up the technical was because he was imploring his team to play through what he thought were some questionable calls, albeit with more colorful language.
‘You can look up most of my techs this year have been with Ben Taylor officiating. At a certain point, as a player you feel it’s personal.
‘It’s never a good place to be – that’s not why we lost tonight, we got outplayed. But it definitely makes it tougher to overcome.
‘Most of the refs are trying hard, I like a lot of the refs, they´re trying hard, they´re pretty fair, and communicate well.
‘And then you got the other ones who just want to be d*** and just kind of f*** up the game. And no one’s coming to see that s***. They come to see the players.
‘I think we’re losing a little bit of the fabric of what the NBA is and was, and it’s been disappointing this season.’
It has been a bad week for Toronto as it pertains to officiating. Forward Scottie Barnes was ejected on his first technical in Monday night’s loss to Denver after uttering ‘y’all are cheating bro,’ before referee Scott Foster sent him to the locker room.
