The bad omens are confirmed. Cleveland Cavaliers guard Ricky Rubio will miss the remainder of the season due to a tear in the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, as the franchise announced in an official statement.
The Spanish international underwent an MRI after being injured during Tuesday’s loss to the New Orleans Pelicans. The player had already suffered a similar injury in 2012, during his rookie season in Minnesota. Jabari Parker and Michael Redd comprise two other examples of players who suffered this injury twice in their careers.
Bad luck has taken hold of Ricky at an important point in his career. First, because of the positive direction that the Cavaliers, currently in fifth place in the Eastern Conference, are taking. And, secondly, because his future in the NBA is complicated, since this summer he will become a free agent.
For their part, the Cavaliers have until January 15 to exercise the disabled player exception worth $ 8.9 million and cover his place, as reported by the journalist from ESPN Bobby Marks.
In 34 games played, Rubio was averaging 13.1 points, 4.1 rebounds and 6.6 assists. Along with Darius Garland he was recording the best net rating for any NBA couple with at least 500 minutes together, at +16.1.
