As of today, Russia has banned the sale, circulation and promotion of nitrous oxide, known as “laughing gas”, under a law signed by President Vladimir Putin and adopted by lawmakers last month.
The law was published on the official legal information portal, where it stated: “The production, circulation and promotion of nitrous oxide is prohibited for its use for non-medical, industrial and technical purposes.”
According to the Russian Ministry of Health, “the uncontrolled use of gas by a person can cause severe damage to the circulatory and respiratory system, and may lead to death.”
The ministry pointed out that “it is unacceptable not to include” laughing gas “in the list of narcotic drugs, as it is actively used in medicine as a means of inhalation anesthesia, and in industry.
