Diego Maradona’s cell phones will be unlocked Friday so prosecutors investigating his death can access his last messages.
The judge approved a request to access the soccer icon’s two smartphones earlier this week, and investigators trying to determine the cause of death confirmed whether Maradona’s death was a result of manslaughter due to medical negligence, and that work on the phone would begin on February 19.
The two iPhones of the late Argentine, which were seized from the bedroom where Maradona died last November, have been in the prosecutor’s office in San Isidro near Buenos Aires since then.

Sources close to the ongoing criminal investigation said that investigators are seeking to find out whether Diego had expressed concerns about his health and who he wrote to and spoke to in the days before his death following a heart attack in a rented house near the Argentine capital.
Cardiac surgeon, Maradona doctor Leopoldo Locke, and his psychiatrist, Augustina Kosachev, underwent a formal investigation before the list of “suspects” increased to five people at the beginning of the week.
The three additional people under official investigation are named after Carlos Diaz, the psychiatrist who treated the former Barcelona and Napoli star, and nurses Daiana Madrid and Ricardo Almiron.
Marodona, who led Napoli to two Serie A titles in 1987 and 1990, underwent surgery in early November to remove a hematoma in the head, and died a few weeks later as a result of “secondary acute pulmonary edema and chronic heart failure”.
