The full Senate of the Republic unanimously (116 votes) approved the reform to double vacations in the Federal Labor Law (LFT).
The amendment increases the vacation period from six to 12 days from the first year of paid work, which will be gradual to reach up to 32 days of paid rest.

The minimum vacation floor established in the labor legislation, currently contemplated in six days, is 52 years old without being modified, that is the same period that Convention 132 of the International Labor Organization (ILO) has in force, which establishes that the period The minimum vacation that a worker must have in their first year of service is 18 days.
This has placed Mexico among the economies with the fewest days of vacation globally, on a par with economies such as Brunei, Malaysia, Uganda, the Philippines or Thailand, which offer less than 10 days of paid vacation to their workforce, according to the Global Center for Public Policy Analysis (World Policy Analysis Center).
