The airline Southwestwhich canceled more than 15,000 flights in eight days causing chaos at US airports, vowed that its operations would gradually return to normal on Friday.
The disturbances began with the historic snowstorm that hit the country hard just before Christmas, affecting all air transport companies.
But air traffic largely resumed its course on Tuesday, except in the case of Southwest. According to the FlightAware site, 57% of the company’s flights were canceled this Thursday.
Unions at the company blamed outdated computer systems for Southwest, particularly those who are in charge of baggage clearance. The company’s particularly sparse network, when other carriers are concentrated in one or several key airports, also affected its performance.
“We are encouraged by the progress made in realigning crews, their schedules and our fleet,” the company said on its website on Thursday.
Southwest It opened a page on its website so that clients can submit their requests for reimbursement for the expenses of meals, hotels and other means of transportation used, as well as to recover their luggage.
