Madrid, Jan 11 (.) .- The Spanish Public Treasury has placed this Tuesday 5,516 million euros in the first auction of bills for six and twelve months of the year in which, however, it has raised the interest applied in both denominations.
According to the auction data, in twelve-month bills the Treasury has sold 4,375 million euros at a marginal yield of -0.515%, higher (or less negative) than the previous -0.595%.
Similarly, in six-month bills, Spain has awarded 1,141 million euros. The applied interest has also been higher, -0.566%, compared to -0.662% in December, when it reached historical lows.
Investor demand has reached 8,665 million euros.
Today’s auction, the second of the year, comes just as the Treasury has mandated several banks to issue a ten-year syndicated debt, the first operation of its kind in 2022.
The Treasury presented its financing strategy for 2022 the day before, a year in which the net issuance of debt reached 75,000 million euros, practically the same amount as last year, when it amounted to 75,138 million.
The gross issuance will be 237,498 million, which represents a reduction of 10%, due to lower amortizations.
