A new study was published in the International Journal of Food Sciences Food Science and Nutrition People who eat meat have lower levels of depression and anxiety compared to vegetarians, according to the American “Business Insider” website.
This analysis examined 20 studies on meat eating and mental health, and found an association between a vegetarian diet and poor mental health outcomes, and Urska Dobrsk, a psychologist at the University of Southern Indiana in America who participated in the study, said: “Restrictive diets or diets that prevent you from eating certain types of food. It makes people unhealthy and unhappy in the long run.” She added: “Avoiding meat may include avoiding chicken and eggs.”
The research included in the new analysis spans the years from 2001 to mid-2020 and includes nearly 172,000 participants across four continents. Of this group, about 158,000 people ate meat and 13,000 did not.
All but two of the studies relied on questionnaires in which respondents self-reported whether or not they ate meat, and then answered prompts about whether they experienced anxiety and depression.
