“Sputnik” agency said that supporters of the former Grand Mufti of Kyrgyzstan, Maksbek Toktumchev, organized mass protest events in the capital, Bishkek, today.
The demonstrators, who gathered near the intelligence building in the Kyrgyz capital, are demanding the release of Toktumchev, who left his post yesterday and was later arrested.
For its part, the State Committee for National Security in Kyrgyzstan said that the former Grand Mufti, in connection with a corruption case, related to the illegal use of pilgrims’ money.
Yesterday morning, Mufti Toktumchev resigned from his post, after which the intelligence officers arrested him.

And confirms the Kyrgyz intelligence, on the existence of irrefutable evidence, proving the involvement of the former mufti in the illegal use of money pilgrims.
One of the protesters said that he and the other demonstrators doubt the veracity of the accusation, and added: “Even if the accusation is correct, the Mufti may not be kept in detention, but rather he must remain under house arrest until the accusation is decided.”
