Thousands demonstrated in the streets of the town of Listel, in northern Switzerland, to demand an end to anti-Coronavirus measures that caused restaurants and other places to close several months ago.
Between 3,000 and 5,000 people gathered in the small town in the canton of Basel in what they described as a “silent protest”.
The protesters, many of whom did not wear masks, raised banners that said “Enough”, “Vaccine kills” and “Let love not fear guide us.”
The protesters accused the Swiss government of using dictatorial powers to impose restrictions aimed at curbing the transmission of Corona infection.
The organizers of the protest in Listel, which has a population of about 14,500, said in a statement, “They expect about 5,000 people to participate, but they have urged more to join.”
And they considered in their statement, which they issued before the gathering, that “the Swiss government took the country hostage for more than a year.”
They added, “We are going to Listel to tell people it is time to end the measures.” And they continued: “These measures are useless … in order to protect one percent of the people at risk, they destroy 99 percent of the lives.”
