Kaye Adams initiated the re-hearing of her case against HRMC today, marking the continuation of a four-year tax battle. After winning her initial case in 2019, the 60-year-old Loose Women star now faces scrutiny for her work between 2013 and 2017, during which she hosted ‘The Kaye Adams Programme’ on BBC Radio Scotland. HMRC alleges that Adams, who worked as a freelancer through her company Atholl House Productions Ltd, owes £81,150.60 in income tax and £43,290.98 in national insurance contributions. This dispute falls under the legislation known as IR35, which aims to combat tax avoidance by individuals charging for services through limited companies. Adams contends that she operated her own business and took on additional contracts, such as Loose Women, during that time, which exempts her from the rules. She was paid £155,000 per year to host a minimum of 160 programmes for the BBC and claims that her compensation for Loose Women was based on a “show by show” basis.
