Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune signed the presidential decree amending the constitution, after his return from Germany on Tuesday, where he received treatment for two months after suffering from Covid-19.
The Algerian News Agency quoted a statement by the Presidency of the Republic that after signing the presidential decree related to this amendment, the new text will be published in the Official Gazette.

The statement said that the move constitutes “an essential building block for building a new Algeria that is suitable and accommodating for all and does not exclude anyone.”
Amending the constitution, on which a referendum was held on October 1, 2020, is the most prominent project of Tebboune after he won the presidency in elections held on December 12.
The referendum, in which the participation rate was 23.84 percent, concluded that the people agreed to amend the constitution.
The text that was put to the referendum includes a set of additional rights and freedoms in the constitution, without prejudice to the basics of the presidential system.
Tebboune, 75, returned Tuesday from Germany and met on Wednesday with Chief of Staff of the Army Lieutenant General Saeed Chengriha, and Thursday signed the 2021 budget.
On the agenda of Tebboune is to prepare a new electoral law and launch a vaccination campaign against Covid-19, starting from January, noting that Algeria has asked Russia to deliver a first batch of the Russian “Sputnik V” vaccine against the emerging corona virus.
