On Tuesday, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune issued an order specifying the electoral districts and the number of seats to be filled in the parliamentary elections.
This decree specifies the electoral districts and the number of seats to be filled in the elections of members of the National People’s Assembly or the first chamber of the Algerian Parliament (407 seats), and the elected members of the National Assembly (116), in accordance with the provisions of the organic law related to the electoral system.

The seats are distributed to each electoral district in the election of the National People’s Assembly according to the population of each state (governorate), and the number of seats in each electoral district is determined on the basis of allocating one seat for each quota that includes 120,000 people, with an additional seat allocated to each remaining quota of 60,000 people.
The number of seats cannot be less than three for governorates with a population of less than 200,000.
The decision limits the number of seats in the electoral district for the Algerian community abroad in the election of the National People’s Assembly to 8 seats.
As for the election of members of Parliament, the electoral district is determined by the territorial boundaries of the state, and the number of seats for each electoral district is limited to two.
Tebboune had announced the dissolution of the House of Representatives at the end of last February, and set the date for early legislative elections on June 12th.
