A car management app is launching a new product that promises drivers motor cover in under a minute.
Caura says it is the first app that allows users to pay for and manage all aspects of their car through their phone.
It has partnered with six insurers to cover nearly all UK drivers with the entire experience completed in app for its new product, Caura Protect.
Through the app, customers can pay for parking, tolls, tax and MOT as well as manage their insurance.
A number of companies now allow drivers to purchase temporary cover through an app
However, it is not the first firm to offer the ability to manage car insurance through an app.
This is Money takes a look at Caura and its competitors – and how other people have rated them.
When it comes to car insurance, it is vital to also check comparison websites and firms that don’t feature on these, to make sure you’re paying the cheapest price possible, for a good level of cover.
Caura: A relatively new brand, Caura was founded in 2018.
The app allows users to manage and pay for parking, tolls, tax and MOT from your phone as well as now buying car insurance policies in less than 60 seconds.
It claims this is an industry first with the entire experience in-app, from research and purchase to management to document storage.
Partnering with six leading insurers – Aviva, Ageas, Markerstudy, ERS, Sabre, and Somerset Bridge – it says it covers almost all UK drivers.
Caura also says that its policies are competitive with many better than those on price comparison websites.
The FCA approved company instantly verifies users against official sources like the DVLA, simplifying the experience, and reducing the risk of insurance fraud.
Speedy: Caura says that its users can purchase car insurance on its app in under 60 seconds
To use the service, Caura app users answer a short series of questions about their insurance needs and receive several quotes from six of the top UK insurers.
By selecting the best product, a user can pay for insurance in just two taps, via Apple Pay or their stored credit/debit card.
In early 2021, Caura users will be able to pay their insurance products using monthly payments.
After signing up, a user will be able to access their insurance documents, make a claim and adjust their policy all from the Caura app.
As it is a new product and fairly new firm, there are very few reviews of the company currently online, with just one on Trustpilot currently. However, this is a five star review.
Cuvva: Meanwhile, Cuvva also offers temporary car insurance, pay monthly insurance and learner driver insurance through its app.
Temporary car insurance gives users the ability to borrow a friend or family members car and get driving in minutes with Cuvva giving comprehensive car insurance for as little as one hour.
However, for this drivers have to be under 65, be at least 19 – and if you’re under 21, have had your licence for a year, with no at or joint-fault claims as well as have a car or van less than 20 years old.
There are also ‘peak hours’ at Cuvva which means if you want to get covered during these times, you might have to pay a little more.
For learner drivers, they can also get temporary learner driver insurance for as little as an hour, or up to three days.
Customers only need to create an account once and can then get cover quickly each time after.
Cuvva’s pay monthly insurance comes with no deposit with customers able to cancel at any time.
Reviews on websites such as Trustpilot are generally positive, with an average rating of four and half stars, although some have complained about the age limit in place.
Some fast insurance websites have rules that state you must be within a certain age bracket
Veygo: Another app, Veygo offers temporary car insurance and learner driver insurance.
The temporary cover is available from one hour up to 30 days and gives users estimated prices for the insurance online.
Users will need to give information such as the vehicle’s registration, who owns it and the drivers information, including their driving licence number so it can tailor your quote.
Reviews on Trustpilot for Veygo are slightly less favourable with an average of three out of five stars.
Some reviewers claim the application process is not easy with others saying they spent 20 minutes applying to be told they are not eligible.
However, other reviewers added that they thought the process was simple and they were easily insured.
Tempcover: This app specialises in short term car insurance.
Depending on the type of vehicle you need to insure, you can choose the policy that fits your needs and select the duration you want from just one hour up to three months.
It also offers cover to 17 and 18 year olds, an option not all of the other services provide.
This has made it one of the best reviewed for 4.6 stars out of 5 on Trustpilot.
Many have said it is easy to use with others commenting on the value for money they received.
Vehicle Smart: This app allows users to manage much of their car details – as well as finding out the details of other vehicles.
For example, it gives users MOT and tax status for all UK vehicles, a full vehicle history and car insurance quotes.
This means if users are looking to purchase a car, they can get all the information they need first before buying.
It also gives reminders for MOT, tax, insurance and servicing, stores all your vehicles with photos, gives mileage analysis and vehicle notes for oil, tyres and bulbs.
However, customers cannot purchase products, such as car insurance, through Vehicle Smart.
Users have given it universally good reviews with customers praising its helpfulness.
