©Reuters. The euro defends parity after fluctuating below the dollar
Berlin, Nov 10 (.).- The euro was slightly above the parity line with the dollar this Thursday, after a day marked by fluctuations, in which the European currency fell temporarily below that range with respect to to the US greenback.
The euro was trading at $1.0182 as of 4:00 p.m. GMT, versus $1.0021 in late European forex trading the previous day.
The European Central Bank (ECB) for its part set the reference exchange rate for the euro at 0.9954 dollars.
The European single currency oscillated in a trading band between a low of $0.9936 and a high of $1.0185.
The European currency’s weakness comes amid lingering uncertainty over the results of Tuesday’s US mid-term elections.
The final count remains unknown and will probably take a few days, but apparently the so-called “red tide” in favor of the Republican side that would have weakened the Democrats of President Joe Biden did not occur.
