Frankfurt (Germany), March 9 (.).- The euro was exchanged this Thursday above 1.0550 dollars after the publication of the increase in the weekly figures for unemployment benefit applications in the US of more than 10% .
The euro was trading around 4:00 p.m. GMT at $1.0579, compared with $1.0555 in the final hours of European currency market trading the previous day.
The European Central Bank (ECB) set the reference exchange rate for the euro at $1.0554.
Weekly jobless claims rose in the US last week to 211,000 (190,000 the week before).
Despite the increase, the number is historically low because job offers outpace job seekers and many companies are having difficulty finding staff.
The dollar depreciated after the 10-year US Treasury yield fell below 4%.
The single currency was exchanged in a fluctuation band between 1.0538 and 1.0585 dollars.
