This came in the course of Peskov’s comment on the statement of US President Joe Biden, in which he said that the United States will never recognize the annexation of Crimea.
A Kremlin spokesman told reporters today, Monday: “The annexation of Crimea, in fact, cannot be recognized. No one can even talk about annexing Crimea, because it never happened,” stressing that what happened was “the reunification of Crimea with Russia, in strict compliance with all provisions of international law. “
Peskov recalled that the decision to return Crimea to Russia was taken by the peninsula’s legislature in 2014, taking into account the status of the region that was at that time part of the territory of Ukraine.
Biden said in a statement last Friday, “The United States has never, nor will it, recognize Russia’s supposed annexation of the peninsula, and will stand with Ukraine against Russia’s hostilities.”
