Caracas, Dec 19 (EFE).- The official price of the US dollar in Venezuela closed this Monday at 16 bolivars, double compared to last September 19, when it reached 8 bolivars, according to reports from the Central Bank (BCV). which reports daily on the price of this and other foreign currencies.
Thus, the local currency -the bolivar- has depreciated 50% since September.
The North American currency, used in a good part of the commercial transactions in the Caribbean country, has registered an accelerated increase in its price, especially so far in December, when it started at 11.25 bolivars, which means that, since then , the price of the dollar has risen by 42%.
Meanwhile, the dollar in the parallel market closed this Monday at 17.12 bolivars, 107% more than three months ago, when it had a price of 8.27 bolivars, according to the Monitor Dólar Venezuela portal, whose price takes several markers into account. .
The Executive has been applying a strategy to contain the exchange rate that consists of controlling the demand for dollars, reducing the issue of bolivars -necessary to buy foreign currency- through the reduction of public spending and the restriction of financing.
However, in recent months, the Government increased spending with various payments to public workers, while it has been releasing credits, which increased by 123% in the last year.
