The Sudanese Ministry of Energy announced the emergency suspension of all Khartoum Refinery units, following the suspension of the main refinery unit, which produces 70% of oil derivatives.
And the main refinery unit stopped due to a leak in the heat exchanger line due to high pressure, while the ministry said that it is doing its best to get it back to work as soon as possible.
The ministry emphasized that the malfunction is “light and can be fixed as soon as possible,” adding that the fuel supply has been secured so that the country’s consumer sectors are not affected.
The Sudanese News Agency reported that the Minister of Energy and Oil, Jaden Ali Obaid, and the Undersecretary for the Oil Sector, Hamid Suleiman, are leading unremitting efforts to accelerate the return of the refinery to service.
The director general of Khartoum Refinery, Mahjoub Hassan Abdel Qader, said that the refinery will return to work within a period of two to four days. He denied the presence of fire or damage, stressing that “the extinguishing process was in a safe manner and the refinery will return to its previous state in a more efficient manner.”
