“ABC News” reported that the violence in northern Mozambique forced the French energy company “Total” to suspend work on the liquefied natural gas project, which costs billions of dollars in Cabo Delgado, in the north of the country.
The network added that after the rebel attack on the first of January on the village of Quitonda, outside the fence of the gas project, the company removed most of its estimated 3,000 workers from the Avongi Peninsula.
For its part, the company said in a statement today that “in light of the evolving security situation in Cabo Delgado province, Total decided to reduce the number of employees present at the Avongi site.”
The statement added that Total “takes all necessary measures to ensure the safety and security of its employees and subcontractors.”
