The white gold dress returned: Woman sparks debate after asking if her nail colour is blue or white

The internet has been divided over a simple photo of a manicure with thousands struggling to decide whether the model’s nails are blue or white.

A beauty lover sparked a lively debate after posting an image to a popular Facebook group of the nail shade she wanted and asking users what colour they thought it looked like. 

Many thought the shade looked like a light blue while others argued it was an off-white and some likened the illusion to the infamous white and gold or blue and black dress that went hugely viral in 2015. 

Amid the confusion, internet sleuths tracked down the source of the image which was from a Russian nail salon and confirmed the colour was in fact a very light blue.

‘I’m in another group and someone asked what colour polish this was… Me being confused because all I see is basic white polish, looked at the comments and people are saying it’s a blue/grey shade?!?’ the woman wrote in the post. 

‘Just wanted to see what you guys thought to see if I should schedule an eye appointment first thing tomorrow morning.’

The question attracted a flurry of responses with most agreeing the nail polish was white.

‘To me it looks to be a white polish which was made from a blue or grey base colour,’ one user said.  

‘Turn the brightness all the way up on your phone. It’s white,’ another replied. 

‘Looks like a high quality white,’ wrote a third while a forth stated: ‘It’s flippin’ white’.

‘Oh no…this scenario….it’s returned,’ someone said with an image of the dress that took the internet by storm seven years ago as millions couldn’t decide if it was blue and black or white and gold. 

Some were completely off course admitting they saw a pink or red tinge.   

‘Maybe a white and gold vs blue and black issue. Though I also see this as a very light grey leaning slightly blue with a soft red/pink shimmer,’ one replied. 

‘Are we all looking at the same picture? Those nails are definitely painted pink,’ said a second. 

However others argued to it was a light blue hue – and they turned out to be right when someone found a photo of the same manicure from a different angle.

‘Very light blue. Like a snow blue or very light baby blue,’ one woman guessed.  

‘Duck egg blue is 100 per cent the colour I thought when I saw this picture,’ another asserted. 

‘Ok everybody, this was bothering me because I saw blue and so many people are saying white. So I tracked down the source and it is definitely blue!’ a member said adding screenshots to prove her point.

‘It’s a light blue by Luxio in the shade Breathless, I went onto their page because I needed to know the real answer,’ a second agreed.
