The Washington Post, citing the White House, reported that President Biden’s statement that his predecessor Trump should not receive intelligence briefings does not represent a final decision, which intelligence officials will make up for.
According to the newspaper, Biden had expressed his views during an appearance with Norah O’Donnell on “CBS Evening News”. Asked whether former President Donald Trump should receive intelligence briefings, as is customary for past presidents, Biden said, “I don’t think so.”

“What is the value of giving him an intelligence briefing?” Biden responded in part of the interview broadcast on Friday, “What’s his impact at all, other than the fact that he might (slip, sigh) and say something?”
Biden wields the unilateral authority to prevent intelligence from reaching anyone he chooses, and his comments appear to indicate that he views Trump as risky enough to do so. But his aides said he would leave that decision to his intelligence team.
In the same context, White House spokeswoman Jane Psaki said in a statement released on Saturday that the president expresses concern about former President Trump’s access to sensitive intelligence information, but also has deep confidence in his intelligence team to make a decision on how to provide the intelligence, if Former President Trump at any time requested a press briefing.
When asked earlier if the Biden administration would cut off Trump’s access to sensitive materials, Psaki said the matter was “under review.”
A spokesperson for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence referred questions to the White House. A Trump spokesman did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Usually past presidents do not receive the same confidential daily briefing as the current president, however, their briefings are usually provided by current intelligence officers, partly out of respect and imitation, and partly to prepare them if their advice is sought or if they represent the administration abroad.
