Cassidy Hutchinson, a top Trump White House adviser, testified Tuesday before the House committee investigating ethe violent attack on the Capitolio of January 6, 2021, that the then president was informed in advance that some of these people had weapons.
“I don’t care if they have guns,” Hutchinson was heard in a video played Tuesday afternoon when he quoted President Trump after being briefed on the situation and reminded him of giving orders to his team, using high-sounding words, to take the metal detectors and let them access the esplanade in front of the White House, where the president was preparing to give an incendiary speech which ended up leading to a march to the Capitol.
Trump insisted in his speech on the morning of January 6 in his unsubstantiated arguments that the election was stolen from him to give victory to Joe Biden. Shortly after, dozens of his supporters stormed the Capitol where the elections would be certified.
“They are not here to harm me. take the damn mags [magnetómetros]. Let my people in. They can march to the Capitol from here,” Hutchinson declared, recalling the words of the then president.
Hutchinson, a top aid to then-Trump chief of staff Mark Meadows, said she was “scared and nervous about what could happen” before the riots and after speaking with Trump’s attorney, Rudy Giuliani, Meadows and others.
The Commission surprise hearing announced with just 24 hours notice, as he had said his next hearings would be in July and would focus on the domestic extremists who attacked the Capitol and former President Trump’s responses and actions as the attack continued.
