On Sunday, Myanmar witnessed the largest wave of demonstrations since the Saffron Revolution in 2007, as tens of thousands of citizens took to the streets to protest the military coup that took place in the country a week ago.
Protesters have expressed their rejection of “military dictatorship”, chanting “We want democracy” and demanding the release of the detained leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, who has been under house arrest since the coup.
The Myanmar army seized power in a coup against the government of Aung San Suu Kyi, which was arrested along with other senior officials in the raids during the early hours of last Monday morning, and announced the appointment of the army chief, Min Aung Helangen, as interim president.
