The New York Times reported that US lawmakers may suspend Trump’s impeachment process on the evening of February 12, due to the day’s coincidence of Jewish weather.
According to the newspaper, Democrats and Republicans who are keen to end the trial of former President Trump within a week may face a new obstacle before them, namely Shabat Day (a Jewish ritual on the Sabbath is devoted to rest and worship), the biblical commandment to maintain the Jewish Sabbath.

One of Trump’s main defense attorneys told Senate leaders that he is a Jew who strictly adheres to the commandment not to work on Saturday, and thus will not be able to participate in any action that falls after sunset on Friday or on Saturday, the newspaper reported.
In a letter obtained by The New York Times, attorney David Schwen requested that the trial be suspended on Saturday, if it did not end by 5:24 pm on Friday, and that he would not be able to participate in it until Sunday.
In the letter, attorney Schwen said, “I apologize for the inconvenience I requested not to carry out the isolation measures during the Jewish Sabbath … the practices and prohibitions are mandatory for me, … and respectfully, I have no choice but to submit this request.”
The letter was sent to Senator Chuck Schumer, New York Democrat and Majority Leader, to Senator Mitch McConnell, Kentucky Republican and Minority Leader, and to Senator Patrick J. Leahy, a Democrat from Vermont, is presiding over the trial as interim president.
Senator Schumer spokesman, Justin Goodman, responded to the letter saying, “We respect the request and of course we will comply.” He added that “consultations with those concerned about the structure of the process are underway,” as the newspaper reported. It was not clear how exactly the Trump lawyer’s request would be implemented.
Trump’s impeachment measures began following statements he made on January 6, that day, supporters of the former US president stormed the Congress building, in an attempt to prevent the approval of the results of the presidential elections that were held in the country, which were won by Democrat Joe Biden.
Trump was charged with incitement to revolt. The impeachment process itself will begin in the upper house of Congress. During the impeachment, members of the House of Representatives will serve as prosecutors and senators as a jury.
