Wafaa El-Sayed Roumieh, who lives in Damietta Governorate and is a graduate of the Faculty of Home Economics at Helwan University, Department of Clothing and Textiles, spoke about her recycling of old clothes. She told Al-Youm Al-Sabaa: “I am one of my first batches, and this helped me to join a government job, and when I started working, I became I had to wear a new and different thing every day, in order to appear beautifully in front of my colleagues, and like any girl, I thought that I did not have clothes despite the many sets that I had, so I began to see old and discontinuous clothes and began to recycle my clothes.

She continued: “I made a page on Facebook and started showing my work before and after the modification, and people liked the idea of recycling old clothes, and I started reading the comments of people who encouraged me to develop myself and renew old clothes.”

After Wafaa started recycling her old clothes for different and new designs, she turned to recycling old clothes for her family members, where she said: “I started recycling old jeans and turned them into bags, men’s shirts for a dress, and any old piece of clothing that I could turn into accessories such as bags or clothes for children, adults or Decorative pieces.

Wafaa tries to recycle old clothes in order to preserve the environment, so she is interested in recycling old clothes from the first buttons to the pieces of fabric that remain after designing the clothes.

Wafaa faces some difficulties in her work, and she said: “I face some difficulties in my job, which is marketing, and there are people who do not know the meaning of recycling old clothes, but I try to convey the idea to people that we must recycle old clothes, renew them, save money and preserve the environment from pollution.”

At the end of her speech, Wafa expressed her wish that she would like to achieve in the future, where she said: “I would like to have a special place in which I present my work and be the first atelier of recycled clothes, and the idea spreads in all of Egypt and people start exploiting and renewing old clothes and helping to preserve the environment.”
