US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken confirmed that Washington would continue to take “firm measures” against the Myanmar military authorities due to the suppression of opponents of the military coup.
Blinken said on his Twitter page that the United States stood with “the people of Burma (Myanmar) in their demand to restore their democratically elected government.”
These statements came 10 days after the United States imposed sanctions against the leaders of the military coup in Myanmar and the army’s seizure of power early this month.
The demonstrations have continued in Myanmar for more than two weeks, but last Saturday was the bloodiest day since the outbreak of the unrest, as the use of violence against protesters resulted in deaths and injuries.
