Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Jack Dorsey, CEO and co-founder of Twitter, offered the first and oldest tweet ever posted on the platform in March 2006, for sale at an online auction as a “redeemable ghz code.” .
On Saturday, Dorsey posted a tweet that included a link, which he takes to “Valuables By Scent” Auction SiteWhere the tweet for sale appears, in which Dorsey wrote 15 years ago: “I’m setting up my own Twitter.”
The tweet has so far received bids of $ 2.5 million at the time of writing this report.
Known as “NFT”, “non-exchangeable codes” are unique digital codes that document the authenticity and ownership of digital materials on the Internet, and validate digital memorabilia such as photos, videos and intangible content available on the Internet.
Among the bidders to buy Dorsey’s tweet, Chinese businessman Justin Sun, founder of cryptocurrency platform Tron, who offered to buy the tweet for $ 2 million.
“Values by Scent” explains that the tweet will continue to be present on “Twitter” after its sale, explaining that what the buyer owns upon completion of the process is a unique digital certificate of the tweet, signed and verified by the creator of the tweet.
The site also confirms that the signed digital certificate is issued only once, and signed using encryption technology that includes metadata of the original tweet such as the date of its publication, the content of its text, the timestamp of its publication, and the digital signature from the address of the encrypted wallet of the creator of the tweet.
Valuables By Scent describes owning digital content as “a financial investment that has sentimental value and develops a relationship between compilers and content creators. Like signing a baseball card, NFT codes are the creator’s signature on content, making it rare, unique and valuable.”
Upon completion of the sale, the original Tweet Maker receives 95% of the transaction value, while Valuables Pay Scent receives the remaining 5% to continue operating the site.
