A Pennsylvania woman was reunited with a puppy she lost two years ago after browsing her local shelter website and discovering he’d been taken in as a stray.
Aisha Nieves was reunited with her dog Kovu, who she lost in June 2019 after a car crashed through the fence of her Allentown home and created a hole the dog was able to escape through.
‘He was my baby. He would go with me everywhere. He would sleep in my bed,’ Nieves told WFMZ.com ‘Literally, the definition of a man’s best friend.’

Neives said she searched frantically for the pit bull-Rottweiler mix after the car accident, at one point checking with the Lehigh County Humane Society.
But when she showed them a picture of Kovu she found out she was too late.
‘I showed them a picture, and they’re like, ‘Oh, that’s Ash. He was just adopted not that long ago,” she said.
For four months, Kovu underwent medical treatment for fleas and inflammation until he was ready to be adopted, LCHS community engagement manager Julie Huber told CNN.
Nieves was devastated and she tells WFMZ for two years she thought of Kovu until one day, when she was randomly scrolling through the Humane Society’s adoptable dogs page she found her dog which she recognized from his distinguishable scar.
‘He was my baby. He would go with me everywhere. He would sleep in my bed,’ Nieves told WFMZ.com ‘Literally, the definition of a man’s best friend’
‘He had a scar right over his right eye,’ she said. ‘It’s not that noticeable anymore, but in the picture they had, you could see it.’
Nieves submitted proof of ownership to LCHS and it was clear when they reunited on June 18 that it was her long-lost dog.
Footage of the heartwarming reunion shows the excited dog run straight towards his former owner.
‘We locked eyes and I seen his smile and he started wagging his tail,’ she said. ‘Soon as he started coming, he started squealing and screaming and yelling and jumping on me kissing.’
‘Their reunion was undeniable and heartwarming to all who were there.’ Huber told CNN. ‘The way that Kovu reacted and remembered (his) owner when he saw her made the reunion all the more memorable. It was a moment that gave you all the loving chills.’
Nieves says it was as if they had never been separated.
‘I love him so much, like I’m just so happy he’s back,’ Nieves told WFMZ.com
