Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova indicated that the diplomats expelled by Moscow were aware of their violation of Russian laws, because the activities in which they participated were not authorized.
Zakharova noted that the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations states that “all persons enjoying privileges and immunities are obligated to respect the laws and regulations of the host country.”
And she recalled that last March, the Russian authorities banned all public and public events and events in the country, as part of the Corona prevention restrictions.
She said, “Foreign diplomats were aware of this matter and therefore, the participation of Swedish, Polish and German consulates in the events of January 23 and 31, not only constituted interference in Russian affairs, but was a deliberate violation of the laws of the host country.”
