Demonstrations against the comprehensive security law renewed in France, today, Tuesday, with the participation of a large number of artists and workers, according to photos published by Reuters news agency.
Hundreds of participants in the demonstrations that gathered in the streets of the capital, Paris, carried banners reading “Let’s wake up”, to express their opinion of rejecting the law, which they consider to limit freedoms, and the French police used water cannons to disperse the demonstrators.
Last month, the French Parliament approved an amendment to the “Comprehensive Security Law”, which would criminalize publishing pictures of police officers while they are working with the intention of harming their “physical or psychological integrity.”
The Comprehensive Security Bill is a French bill presented by Representative Alice Thoreau of the Republican Forward Party, and Representative Jean-Michel Voverej, which was put up for debate in the National Assembly on October 20, 2020.
The bill proposes strengthening the municipal police powers, and prohibiting the capture of footage by footage cameras, drones and the publication of pictures of French police officers.
The project, supported by the main police unions, has caused various criticisms by journalists, national and international public bodies and associations in defense of public freedoms.
